“For we are God’s handiwork created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”– Ephesians 2:10
Whew child!!! It’s been a little bit quiet on the blog’s forefront hasn’t it? I’ve been cooking up some content to share with you guys…coming from a different continent and featuring images with a whole new vibe and feel to it (exhibit A on your left).
Anyway, turning twenty-nine this year was something that had me all excited and brewed up for new beginnings. I use the term ‘brewed up’ because I literally felt like an extremely hot beverage, steaming up nothing but goodness, after being prepared with a mixture of ingredients that contained nothing but blessings.
Besides the fact that I was thankful to God for allowing me to reach a new chapter in life, I was also excited to open this new page and reveal what my final year in my twenties, has to offer. I never get as excited for my birthday as I did on the seventeenth of October two thousand and eighteen, however this year, I also received an overwhelming level of love, support and appreciation…which I’m extremely thankful for.
As my fingers tap away on the keyboard, I’m constantly stuck in my thoughts about how blessed I am. Twenty-nine years on this planet we call Earth, is absolutely no joke at all. I stop at times, to think about what my life could have been like, if I took different turning points on my journey, If I had not crossed paths with certain people..and I’m not just talking about the people who are still a part of my life and most importantly, if God had not intervened when necessary. Earlier on today, I had a long talk with my partner. In our 3-4 hour long conversation, we laughed, we reminisced, we talked about how blessed we are to have met one another and we laughed some more. We spent a lot of time reflecting on our past (as a couple and before we met) and couldn’t help but chuckle at the throwbacks…and I’m not just talking about embarrassing outfits!
Its good to sit back from time to time and have flashbacks on life. They don’t have to be negative all the time. And if you do find yourself reflecting a little too long on the negative encounters you’ve had in life…stop…drop…and pray! For everything happens for a reason and one thing I can tell you, is that every mistake in life is also a lesson…and lessons are there to enable you to become a better person. But other than that, its a sweet moment when you have the opportunity to ponder on the joys you experienced in the past. This can range from occasions where someone may have said or done something which filled you with happiness, to something big or small that you may have done for yourself (or someone else) which again, ended with a positive outcome. It’s a healthy feeling to have when you use these beautiful memories to appreciate how far you’ve come in life and how those same experiences have shaped and moulded you to become the person you are now.
And if you sit down or take a pause to reflect on the positive things, yet you can’t seem to think of/ find any, then surely that special day which is marked as your birthday should be enough to make you smile; and the icing on the cake, is having your family and friends around you to remind you of just how special you are.
I have so much planned for the remaining three hundred and fifty five days as a twenty-nine year old. Now of course, as I’ve mentioned in so many previous posts, if its not God’s plan, then it is not a plan full stop, but I have the guidance I need from The Most High so all should be well.
One thing I don’t want to do too much of this year, is to second guess things. I aim to just go with the flow…God’s flow.
I also aim to push out my comfort zone a bit more as I know that, mentally, I will never grow if I’m stuck in my old ways. I aim to try new things and conquer my fears…and so far, I’ve off to a brilliant start with that.
Spending quality time with me, myself and I is also an important goal on my list from now, until eternity. Although I’m a family woman (and I’m not just talking about the mother role…I’m talking, partner, older and younger sister, Godmother, daughter, aunt and friend (because my friends are my family)), taking time out to relax and appreciate my own company to engage in some of the little tasks or activities that I enjoy, is necessary.
Enjoy and appreciate my growth. Sometimes as we physically grow our mental growth fails to move in the same direction as we’re afraid of saying goodbye to our youthful stages. But who is to say life won’t get better as you grow? I believe it surely does. And thats what gets me all excited!!
If your birthday doesn’t fall during this time of the year, it doesn’t mean to say you can’t take this opportunity to ruminate on the 2018 you’ve had so far and what you aim to do for the remaining quarter of the year. Before you know it, we’ll be saying goodbye to that number, as we wish Mother Earth a happy 2019th birthday. So use this time, to reflect, to laugh, to cry and to set new goals if you have to. And whilst you’re doing all of that, don’t forget to live..live your life to the fullest.
